چکیده

Introduction: Magnesium is an uncommon electrolyte in a sports hydration drink despite the fact that many endurance athletes suffer from muscle cramps and soreness during marathon events. We tested if optimal amount of elemental magnesium (100 mg/serving) mix can reduce incidence severity cramps. Methods: The open survey was conducted using questionnaire about participating completed after finishing half-marathon race. course identical two separate events held at same location. Participating had magnesium-rich mix, MAGNAK or water for hydration. number who mild-moderate and/or severe were recorded this post-event survey. Results: A total 86 participated event 1 98 2. Amongst only hydration, approximately 46% as compared to 21% those hydrated with (p=0.002). Hydration reduced both, well both Mild-moderate occurred 12% 26% used (p=0.02). Incidence 20% 9% by on average composite data (p=0.04). Conclusions: Magnesium-rich highly effective reducing mild exercise associated runners.

Exercise-associated Muscle Cramps in Runners: A Review

Objective: Exercise-associated Muscle Cramp (EAMC) is an intense, painful, and involuntary contraction of skeletal muscles during a physical activity. Runners are more prone to this syndrome than other athletes. The present paper aims to review of the literature on EAMC in runners to determine the reasons and nature of EAMC in this sports field. Methods: A search was conducted for related stud...

Exercise-Associated Muscle Cramps

CONTEXT Exercise-associated muscle cramps (EAMC) are a common condition experienced by recreational and competitive athletes. Despite their commonality and prevalence, their cause remains unknown. Theories for the cause of EAMC are primarily based on anecdotal and observational studies rather than sound experimental evidence. Without a clear cause, treatments and prevention strategies for EAMC ...

Serum electrolyte concentrations and hydration status are not associated with exercise associated muscle cramping (EAMC) in distance runners.

OBJECTIVES To determine whether acute exercise associated muscle cramping (EAMC) in distance runners is related to changes in serum electrolyte concentrations and hydration status. METHODS A cohort of 72 runners participating in an ultra-distance road race was followed up for the development of EAMC. All subjects were weighed before and immediately after the race. Blood samples were taken bef...

Prevalence of Hyponatremia, Renal Dysfunction, and Other Electrolyte Abnormalities Among Runners Before and After Completing a Marathon or Half Marathon

BACKGROUND Prior reports on metabolic derangements observed in distance running frequently have small sample sizes, lack prerace laboratory measures, and report sodium as the sole measure. HYPOTHESIS Metabolic abnormalities-hyponatremia, hypokalemia, renal dysfunction, hemoconcentration-are frequent after completing a full or half marathon. Clinically significant changes occur in these labora...
